Vision

The Shop, a Santa Barbara eatery, envisioned a bold, attention-grabbing design that would maximize both functionality and accessibility.

To achieve this, we removed the back third of the Airstream, creating a seamless flow between the interior and an outdoor cooking and service bar area, which not only enhances the space but also serves as a stunning focal point, perfect for entertaining and drawing attention at any event.

Execution

The 3-sided solid tail section features a reclaimed wood bar top, extending the Airstream’s overall length by 1-1/2 feet. This expanded space allows for seamless service of beverages and snacks from the interior food prep and storage area, with patrons enjoying their orders while standing or sitting on bar stools.

We outfitted the prep area with durable vinyl flooring, easy-to-clean countertops, and stainless steel equipment, all built to meet Health Department standards and codes. To ensure optimal comfort and functionality, we also added a roof-mounted air conditioner, a hood vent fan, and a home-style hot water heater, transforming this Airstream into a fully operational mobile kitchen.

    • Completely waterproof exterior tail section

    • New reinforced and insulated wall constructed with an access door

    • Horizontally mounted reclaimed wood planks on the wall and door

    • Rainwater drains through the recycled wood Trex-like plank flooring onto the ground below and/or into a water catchment tank

    • Several 110V outlets provide ample plug-ins for smaller appliances, such as blenders and food processors
